Heritage Volunteers at Hellens, Much Marcle
| For at least 6 years a dedicated group of NADFAS Volunteers have been working, with painstaking patience, conserving antique textiles at Hellens, Much Marcle. Meeting every Friday morning throughout the winter, they have brought wall hangings, curtains, bed hangings and cushions back to life and stabilized them for posterity. Eventually, they turned their attention to the Music Room curtains which are hanging in impossible tatters. It was agreed that they were beyond help and the group were delighted when Adam Munthe, Chairman of the Trustees, agreed to finance the necessary materials to make new ones - their first truly creative project at Hellens! |

| Led by Sally Ziesler, a talented member of Malvern Hills NASDFAS, ecru linen twill has been purchased and a traditional design for crewel work panels has been created by her. Work on this exciting project has begun, but not before all the volunteers spent many hours working samples to prove their proficiency! They have been joined by experienced embroiders from Malvern Hills and Worcester DFASs. Even with their help the curtains may take several years to complete, but the volunteers all know that their work will remain in Hellens for decades, if not hundreds, of years to come. |
